This article is for people who have already installed Tolstoy and have some videos in their Tolstoy video library. The following steps will guide you through how to create automated Tolstoys, saving time and effort.

Before you begin:

Need to add videos to your Tolstoy library? You can import videos from Instagram or TikTok. Or you can upload videos directly in Tolstoy.

Automated vs. Manual

There are two ways to leverage videos on your PDPs: automatically or manually.

With Tolstoy's automated feature, you can effortlessly publish your videos on thousands of SKUs at scale, saving your team time, effort, and money. The automated feature is the default on Tolstoy and is more likely to be used.

Using the automated feature, you can tag the videos from your Tolstoy library with products from your ecommerce store and each video will show up on the corresponding product page in your store as a shoppable video.

You can also add your videos on PDPs manually. The manual feature is the first version of the feature that was released on Tolstoy and allows you to add videos as Stories/ Carousels one by one. There are different uses for the manual feature and you can learn more about manual installation here.

Step 1: Content management

Stories/Carousels are generated from content that you create. You’re probably already uploading content to platforms like Instagram and TikTok. Tolstoy has made it easy to import your already-made and posted content to the Tolstoy video library. Follow the links to learn more about importing your videos from other platforms:

1. Go to Videos tab.

2. Click the 'Product' button.

3. Once the product card is opened, type in your product's name.

4. Matching results will show in the product drop-down. Click the products you want to tag on the video and save your choices.

💡Tip: Tolstoy allows you to tag multiple videos at once. Follow the steps below to save more time.

1. To start multi-tagging in the videos tab, hover over the desired video and a checkbox will appear in the top left corner of the video. Check the box and repeat the process for all other videos you want to tag.

2. Click on the tag icon located at the upper right corner of the page.

3. You can tag multiple items at once, simply enter your search terms in the box and then click on the "Select All" button.

4. Once tagging is completed, save your changes.

Tip:

Tolstoy’s Automated Tolstoy feature automatically adds Stories or Carousels to your ecommerce shop after you’ve tagged them with your products. You need to make sure that once you’ve added a new video to your Tolstoy library, you tag the actual product from your store so the video can be added to your product page as a Story or Carousel.

Step 2: Installation

The next step is to set up your installation settings for your automated Tolsoty. Follow the steps below to add Stories or Carousel to your product pages.

1. Go to app.gotolstoy.com

2. Click on the Onsite section and then click on New Tolstoy.

3. Click on Stories or Carousel.

4. Choose product pages.

Important note: Automated Tolstoys are only supported for Product Detail Page and for the Stories and Carousel layouts.

5. Automated will be automatically chosen.

6. You can then go back to your Tolstoy video library and start tagging the products for your videos.

Tip:

Automated Tolstoy videos will have lightning bolts ⚡️ next to them as an indicator that they’ve been integrated using our automated feature. This means that you can easily tag additional products to that video, and Tolstoy will add the video to the corresponding product page in the chosen layout.

Special feature:

Tolstoy has included a special feature below your choices for automated or manual Tolstoys. In the section where it says “Videos”, you take an inventory of which products are tagged in each video. Simply type in the name of your product and click on it. Then, it will show which videos that product is tagged in.
