Give your customers a smarter shopping experience by turning on your store’s AI shopper! It can guide buyers, answer their questions, and help them choose products - all without needing live support. These widgets work smoothly with your website and can help boost trust and sales.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to set up and customize the three main AI Shopper tools: AI Questions, AI Search, Virtual Try-On and Ask AI.

Use Cases

Each widget serves a distinct purpose in enhancing the shopping experience. Understanding when to use each one is key to maximizing their value.

  • AI Questions: Shows common product questions (like size, materials, or care) right on your product pages to help customers without them needing to ask support.

  • AI Search: Gives your shoppers a smarter way to search your site using natural language - much better than regular keyword search!

  • Virtual Try-On: Perfect for fashion and sizing recommendations - this lets customers “see” how items look on them, helping build confidence before buying.

  • Ask AI: Lets your shoppers chat with AI about your products — a smarter, more interactive way to get answers than regular FAQs!

Setting Up AI Questions

This widget shows clickable Q&As on your product pages, so customers can get answers fast.

Customize the Look

Go to AI Shopper -> Widgets -> Click on the AI Questions card

Under Design Widget, choose Widget Appearance:

  • Colors – Customize background, hover background, text, hover text, border, and hover border.

  • Widget animation – Choose whether questions scroll automatically or stay fixed.

  • Shape & Style – Adjust the border radius and decide whether to show or hide the star icon.

  • Font and Size – Set the font style and text size for the widget.

Search - Lets you add a product search bar

  • Blacklist by Collection – Select product collections where you don’t want the widget to appear.

  • Show widget in the following templates – Search and select multiple templates, or manually type template names, where you want the widget to appear.

Review Questions

  • Edit Questions – The questions for the selected product appear in the right-hand panel. Click on any question text to edit it directly.

  • Add a Custom Answer – To provide a specific answer, click the Add custom answer (optional) button next to the desired question.

  • Enter Your Response – In the Add FAQ Answer pop-up, type your answer in the Answer text box.

  • Save Your Answer – Click Save Answer to confirm. Your custom answer will now replace the AI-generated one.

Top Questions not showing on all products?

If the See it on you appears on some products, it’s likely because it’s added only to your default product template.

If your store uses other product templates (e.g., for certain collections or special layouts), you’ll need to add the Top questions block to each template in your Shopify theme editor.

Quick fix:

  1. Open each product template in the Shopify theme editor.

  2. Add the Shopper Top questions block.

3. Save.

Setting Up AI Search Bar

This smart search bar helps shoppers find products by typing questions naturally.

  • Go to AI Shopper -> Widgets -> Click on the AI Search card

Under Widget Appearance

  • Placeholder – The default text shown in the input field (e.g., “Ask me anything”).

  • Behavior - Decide if the chat should open right away when someone clicks the Search Bar widget

  • Colors – Customize the widget’s background, text, and other color options.

  • Position – Choose where the widget appears on the page.

  • Font – Set the font style for the text in the widget.

Widget Visibility

  1. Agent Should Appear on These Pages – Choose the pages where the widget will be visible:

    • Home

    • Product Pages

    • Collection Pages

  2. Blacklist by Collection – Select product collections where you don’t want the widget to appear.

  3. Show Widget in the Following Templates – Search and select multiple templates, or manually type template names, where you want the widget to appear.

    Click Publish

The AI understands different languages! No need to set anything - customers will get replies in the language they use.

To remove it, just unpublish.

Reminder: AI Search widget for non-Shopify website is not yet supported.
Note: In some cases, the AI Search bar might still appear on the player or on your site even if it’s unpublished. If that happens, email us at support@gotolstoy.com and we’ll remove it for you on the backend.

Important 📌

Please make sure the product is published on your store to avoid it showing up as broken. If a product is marked as “Active” but isn’t published, it’ll still get pulled into the recommendations and appear broken on the front end.

We use Shopify’s product recommendation algorithm, so any item listed as “Active” may show up even if it’s unpublished. To fix this, you can either publish the product or change its status to “Disabled.”

Setting Up Virtual Try-On

  2. Show Widget in the Following Templates – Search and select multiple templates, or manually type template names, where you want the widget to appear.

Add to Your Store

See it on you block not showing on all products?

If the See it on you appears on some products, it’s likely because it’s added only to your default product template.

If your store uses other product templates (e.g., for certain collections or special layouts), you’ll need to add the Shopper block to each template in your Shopify theme editor.

Quick fix:

  1. Open each product template in the Shopify theme editor.

  2. Add the Shopper See it on you block.

  3. Save.
