How can I resolve some common problems with publishing my widget on my site?

Having trouble publishing your Tolstoy widget or seeing it appear on your screen? See below for some common problems and what may be causing them.

I have app blocks/sections, but I'm not sure where to place my Tolstoy publish id.

To add your Tolstoy project on a v2 Shopify store, proceed with the following steps:

Log in to your Shopify Store Admin
Click on Online Store and Click on Customize

3. Go to the page where you want to add your Tolstoy widget and add block/section, select Apps, and select the Tolstoy widget you are adding.

4. Copy the publish ID from the Publish button in the Tolstoy widget

5. Paste the publish id into your app block in Shopify and click save to publish it to your site.

I'm unable to add the widget to my page because I don't have app blocks/sections.

If you don’t see any app blocks or sections, you may need to add your Tolstoy widget via code. You can watch a tutorial here or follow the below instructions:

In your Tolstoy Dashboard to Onsite > select the Tolstoy project you created > click the “Publish” button on the top right > click the “Use code instead” dropdown and click “Copy code”
Once you copied the code, go to your Shopify admin > Online Store > Themes > click on the three dots of the theme where you want to add the Tolstoy video > click Edit code
You now need to find the file of the page where you want to add the Tolstoy. If you’re adding it in a product page, the file name is product-template.liquid. If you don’t find that file, you may need to ask a help from your dev team.
Once you have found the file, paste the code snippet from Tolstoy in yo code line where you want the Tolstoy video to appear the Tolstoy video and hit Save.

I added my code, but the widget is not appearing on my live site.

Enable Tolstoy in app embeds

Please make sure that Tolstoy is enabled in your app embeds on your Shopify site and have clicked save. Afterwards, make sure to click “completed” in the Installation tab of Tolstoy.

Minimum number of videos

Tolstoy allows you to adjust how many videos must be selected or tagged in order to display the widget on a page. For example, if you only have a single video tagged with a product, you may not want a story to appear on your page. To avoid this, you can set a minimum number of videos required to display any stories at all.
If you are not seeing your widget displayed on your page, you may not have selected enough videos for that page. To adjust the minimum number of videos, go to the Design tab → Widget → minimum number of videos, and hit save. To add more videos, you can select more playlists, add more videos to your selected playlists, or tag more videos with products.
Please note, if you are using a Product Page widget, by default it will only add videos that are tagged with that product to a specific PDP. If you want all videos to appear on every PDP, please go to your widget’s settings (below the publish button) and select “Allow non-tagged videos on PDPs”

Rules for “Widget” Tolstoy project

Within your Widget Tolstoy project, the “Rules” tab will dictate where your widget will or will not appear.
You can adjust where your widget appears per store, per URL, based on event triggers, with user attributes, or based on mobile/desktop. Visit the rules tab (this is only availble for the “Widget” Tolstoy type) to explore more.

Incorrect videos are appearing on my pages

I added my Tolstoy widget to my product pages, but I don’t see all the videos I selected

If you want to see all videos within the selected playlists on your all your product pages (not just the videos with that product tagged), go to the widget’s settings (below the publish button) and select “Allow non-tagged videos on PDPs”

I added my Tolstoy widget to my product pages, but I only want videos tagged with that product to appear.

To ensure videos are only displayed on product pages where the respective product is tagged, go to the widget’s settings (below the publish button) and deselect “Allow non-tagged videos on PDPs”
