Introduction
Tolstoy has one shared credit balance for its AI creation tools: Studio credits. The AI Widget Builder no longer has its own credits. Building or editing a widget with the AI agent uses the same Studio credits as creating images and videos. This article explains what uses Studio credits, what doesn't, and where to check your balance.
What uses Studio credits
Studio credits pay for your AI agent, content creation, and widget building. That includes:
AI agent chat replies, including chats where the agent builds or edits an AI widget (Widget Builder).
Images: image generation, image editing, image upscaling, and background removal.
Videos: video generation, video upscaling, and lip sync.
Audio: music, speech, and sound effect generation.
Try-on images you generate yourself in the AI agent (for example, product-on-model images).
Behind-the-scenes AI work for your content, such as media analysis and video or audio transcription. Long agent chats can also use a small amount for chat memory and chat summaries.
Every one of these shows up as its own line in your usage history (see below).
What doesn't use Studio credits
Shopper conversations and virtual try-ons on your store. These use your separate Onsite AI credits.
People viewing your video widgets on your website. These count as Onsite Video impressions under your plan, not credits.
Publishing a widget. Publishing doesn't spend credits. Which widgets you can publish depends on your plan.
Check your Studio credits
On the web Platform:
Open your profile menu and click Usage to see your remaining Studio credits, Onsite AI credits, and Onsite Video impressions.
For details, go to Settings → Usage & billing. The Overview tab shows your plan and Current balance.
Open the Usage history tab and choose AI Studio to see what each credit was spent on, by billing cycle. If your workspace has several members, you can also see how many credits each member used.
In the Tolstoy Shopify app:
Go to Settings → Plan & usage. Usage this period lists Studio credits, Onsite AI credits, and Video impressions.
The Studio credits section shows how many credits you have left.
In the AI chat, the Credits button also shows what's left this period. Click it to open Plan & usage.
When credits refresh
Your plan's Studio credits refresh every month. On an annual plan, Usage & billing shows the next Credits reset date.
Top-up credits you buy are kept in a separate pool and carry over.
If you run out
When your Studio credits run out, Tolstoy shows an Insufficient Credits or You're out of Studio credits message. From there you can:
Buy a one-time top-up of Studio credits. In the Shopify app, use Add credits in Settings → Plan & usage. One-time Studio credit top-ups are available on Pro and higher.
Change your plan to get more monthly credits.
Or wait until your credits refresh.
In the Shopify app, if you can buy top-ups you can also turn on Automatic refill in Plan & usage, which tops up your Studio credits when they run low.
