Tolstoy MCP connects ChatGPT to your Tolstoy workspace. It helps merchants create and manage Studio content, find media, tag products, publish shoppable widgets, and check ad performance without leaving the chat. In the current ChatGPT setup flow, there is no paid-plan requirement shown for setup or publishing.

Open ChatGPT and turn on <code>Developer mode</code>. Custom plugins stay hidden until this is on.

Open the ChatGPT plugin or app creation page.

In <code>Server URL</code>, paste <code>https://apilb.gotolstoy.com/mcp/v1/mcp</code>.

Ask ChatGPT to find the video, product, or media set you want to use.

Ask ChatGPT to tag the correct products and create or update the widget you want to publish, such as <code>Stories</code>, <code>Carousel</code>, or <code>Spotlight</code>.

Review which videos the widget will show before you publish.

Open your store and confirm that the widget is visible in the correct place.

If the widget is live in Tolstoy but not visible on Shopify, turn on the Tolstoy app embed in your theme.

I do not see the custom plugin option in ChatGPT. Turn on <code>Developer mode</code> first. The custom plugin flow stays hidden until it is enabled.

Do I need an API key? No. Tolstoy MCP uses sign-in with your Tolstoy account.

Why did ChatGPT connect to the wrong workspace? The connection stays tied to the Tolstoy workspace you approved during sign-in. Disconnect and reconnect if you need to switch workspaces.

Why is my widget not visible after I publish it? First confirm that the widget is published. Then check the storefront. If you use Shopify, make sure the Tolstoy app embed is turned on.

Can I create content and publish it from the same chat? Yes. After ChatGPT is connected, you can create or manage Studio content, then use the same chat to set up and publish a shoppable widget.
