How to Tag Products Individually or in Bulk

Learn how to tag products to individual or multiple media assets to publish them as shoppable content.

Written by Niezl

Introduction

Product tagging connects products from your catalog to videos or images in your Tolstoy Library. Tagged products can appear alongside your content in shoppable website widgets, helping customers discover product details and shop directly from the experience.

Tagging products does not require a paid plan. However, publishing a shoppable widget on your website requires a paid AI Player plan. Tapcart projects are an exception.

Before you begin, ensure your e-commerce store or product catalog is connected to Tolstoy and that your products have finished syncing.

How to Set Up

Tag products to one media asset

  1. Go to Library. Select the video or image you want to tag.

  2. Click the Tag Product icon. Search for the product you want to tag. Select the product. If applicable, select specific product variants.

  3. Repeat these steps to tag additional products.

Your selections are saved automatically.

You can also tag products from the Product Catalog:

  1. Click your profile on the lower left Settings Product Catalog.

  2. Search by name, product ID, or SKU. You can also simply click the product and add videos.

To remove a product, you can either deselect it from the product selector in your Library, or go to the Product Catalog and hover over the image or video. Click the three dots in the upper-right corner, then select Remove from product.

Tag products to multiple media assets at once

Bulk tagging lets you add the same products to several Library assets simultaneously.

  1. Go to Library and open Media.

  2. Select the checkbox on each asset you want to update.

  3. To select every visible asset, click the box to Select all.

  4. In the bulk-action toolbar, click the Tag products shopping-bag icon.

  5. Search for and select the products or variants you want to tag.

The selected products are added to every selected asset automatically.

Bulk product tagging is available for assets that have already been added to your Library. If the Tag products action does not appear, add or import the assets to the Library first.

Best Practices

  • Tag only products that are clearly featured or discussed in the content.

  • Tag specific variants when the content shows a particular color, size, or style.

  • Place the most relevant product first when several products are tagged.

  • Review bulk selections carefully—the chosen products will be applied to every selected asset.

  • Keep your store integration connected so product titles, images, prices, and availability remain current.

  • Preview the published experience on desktop and mobile.

Troubleshooting / FAQs

Why can’t I find a product?

Confirm that your store or product catalog is connected and fully synced. Search using the exact product title or product ID. Newly added products may take time to appear after a catalog sync.

Why don’t I see the bulk Tag products action?

Bulk tagging applies only to supported assets already imported into the Library. Open My Media and select at least one eligible asset.

Do I need to click Save after tagging a product?

No. Product-tagging changes are saved automatically.

Can I tag more than one product to the same asset?

Yes. You can tag multiple products and, where available, select specific variants.

Will bulk tagging replace existing product tags?

No. Selecting a product adds it to all selected assets. Removing a commonly tagged product removes it from the selected assets, so review the selections before making bulk changes.

Why aren’t tagged products visible on my website?

Check that:

  • The asset has been added to a website project.

  • The project is published and marked live.

  • The widget is installed or enabled on your storefront.

  • Your plan supports publishing.

  • The tagged products are active and available in your connected store.

Can I tag products without publishing?

Yes. You can organize and prepare product tags in the Library without publishing the content.
