How to Set Up and Publish Top Questions (AI Shopper)

Learn how to set up, customize, review, and publish the Top Questions AI Shopper widget on your store.

Introduction

Top Questions is an AI Shopper widget that displays clickable, product-specific questions on your store, helping shoppers get quick answers before they buy. Merchants can use it to reduce hesitation, surface common product questions, and improve the product page experience.

Setting up Top Questions does not require a paid plan just to configure the widget. Publishing and usage depend on your AI Shopper package or available credits; if credits run out, AI Shopper widgets may be paused.

How to Set Up

  1. Log in to your Tolstoy account.

  2. Go to AI Shopper ➜ Browse features

  3. Select Top Questions.

  4. In the Content tab, search for products in the Product Catalog.
    ​

  5. Click the Generate button and review the AI-generated questions for that product. Alternatively, you can also manually add questions.
    ​

  6. Edit, remove, or add questions as needed. Use collection-level questions if you want the same question to apply across multiple products.
    ​

  7. Open the Test Agent tab to test how the questions behave.

  8. Open the Style tab to customize the appearance of your Top Questions widget including device settings, title, colors, widget animation, shape & style, font and behavior.
    ​

  9. Open the Settings tab to control widget visibility, such as blocked collections or templates and AI question generation to add topics for the AI to avoid or emphasize.
    ​

How to Publish

For Shopify Stores

  1. Open the Top Questions widget in Tolstoy and click Publish.
    ​

  2. If prompted, enable the Tolstoy app embed in Shopify.
    ​

  3. Click Add block or Add section. Tolstoy will open Shopify so you can add the Top Questions block to your product page template.

  4. In Shopify, place the block where you want Top questions to appear on the product page.

  5. Click Save in Shopify.

  6. Return to Tolstoy.

  7. Check your product page to confirm the Top Questions appear and work.

  8. Click It worked once the widget is live.

For Non-Shopify Stores

  1. Open the Top Questions widget in Tolstoy.

  2. Click Publish.

  3. Copy the Top Questions code snippet.

  4. Add the snippet to the page where you want the widget to appear.

  5. Save the changes on your website.

  6. Return to Tolstoy and click Publish Widget.

  7. Visit your live site to confirm the widget appears and works.

Best Practices

  • Review AI-generated questions before publishing.

  • Use short, clear questions that match real shopper concerns.

  • Keep the widget close to product details or buying sections.

  • Enable AI auto-update if you want questions to refresh based on product info and shopper behavior.

  • Check Sessions and Analytics after publishing to see what shoppers interact with.

Troubleshooting / FAQs

Why isn’t Top Questions showing on my store?
Make sure the widget is published, the Tolstoy app embed is enabled, and the block was added to the correct Shopify product page template.

Can I edit the questions?
Yes. Use the Review Questions tab to edit, add, or remove product questions.

Can I use the same questions for multiple products?
Yes. You can add questions to collections so they apply across multiple products.

What does AI Auto-Update do?
AI Auto-Update refreshes questions using product information and shopper behavior. Manually added questions are not changed.

Can I unpublish Top Questions?
Yes. Open the widget, click the publish control, and choose Unpublish.

What happens if I run out of AI Shopper credits?
Your AI Shopper widgets may be paused until credits are available again.
