How to Connect Your Shopify Store in the Tolstoy Platform

Learn how to connect your Shopify store to Tolstoy, import products automatically, and prepare your store for publishing Tolstoy widgets.

Written by Niezl

Introduction

Connecting your Shopify store to Tolstoy lets Tolstoy import your products automatically and makes it easier to publish shoppable videos, widgets, and product experiences directly to your Shopify storefront.

This helps merchants connect product data, add Tolstoy blocks through the Shopify theme editor, and keep the publishing flow simple. Connecting your Shopify store does not require a paid plan. Publishing Tolstoy widgets to your live site may require a paid plan or starting a free trial, depending on your current Tolstoy plan.

How to Set Up

  1. Log in to the Tolstoy Platform at platform.gotolstoy.com.

  2. In the lower left, click your Profile > Settings > Set up store.

  3. Enter your Shopify shop name.
    You can enter either:

    • your-shop-name

    • your-shop-name.myshopify.com

  4. Click Connect to Shopify.

  5. A new Shopify admin tab will open. Approve the requested permissions to connect Tolstoy.

  6. Keep the Shopify tab open while the connection finishes.

  7. Once you see Store Connected!, close the Shopify tab and return to Tolstoy.

After the connection is complete, Tolstoy can begin importing your Shopify products.

How to Publish

The Shopify connection itself does not need to be published. To publish a Tolstoy experience on your Shopify store:

  1. In Tolstoy, open or create the website widget you want to publish.

  2. Click Publish.

  3. If prompted, start a free trial or upgrade your plan.

  4. If this is your first Shopify publish, Open Shopify theme.

  5. In Shopify, go to App embeds and toggle Tolstoy ON. Click Save.

  6. Return to Tolstoy and continue the publish flow.

  7. Copy your Widget Code.

  8. Click Add block to open the Shopify theme editor.

  9. Add the Tolstoy Builder to the relevant template, paste the Widget Code, and click Save.

Best Practices

Use your store’s .myshopify.com domain when connecting.

Make sure you have Shopify admin permissions before starting.

Keep the Shopify approval tab open until the connection finishes.

Enable the Tolstoy app embed once, then reuse it for future widget publishing.

Preview the widget in Shopify before relying on it on your live storefront.
