How to Create and Publish Shop App Videos

Learn how to create, publish, sync, and manage Tolstoy Shop App Videos as shoppable Posts in Shopify’s Shop app.

Written by Niezl

Introduction

Shop App Videos let you publish shoppable Tolstoy videos to the Shop app as Shop Posts. This helps merchants showcase products with video content in places where Shop customers can discover and engage with the brand.

Published Shop Posts can appear in the Shop home feed, Shop Store, and Following tab. Learn more in Shopify’s guide to creating posts for Shop.

Plan/access note: Your store must be eligible for the Shop channel, and Shop App Videos must be available in your Tolstoy account. If you don’t see the Shop App Videos option or the Publish button is unavailable, contact Tolstoy Support to confirm your plan and eligibility.

How to Set Up

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Sales channels > Shop.

  2. Click Posts.

  3. Click Manage apps.

  4. In the Connected apps section, click Connect next to Tolstoy.

  5. Follow the prompts in Tolstoy to select or configure the shoppable videos you want to sync.

In Tolstoy, you can choose videos from playlists, manually add videos, filter videos by recency, and exclude specific playlists. If a video needs to be uploaded to Shopify before it can be published, click Upload on the video card.

How to Publish

  1. In Tolstoy, open Shop App.

  2. Review the videos selected for publishing.

  3. Make sure the videos are ready to publish and connected to the relevant products.

  4. Click Publish.

After publishing, Tolstoy syncs the videos to Shop as Posts. If the project is already live, click Sync to push updates.

⚠️Current behavior: Tolstoy videos connected to Shop are published as Posts on the Shop home feed. There isn’t currently a way to keep the Shop connection active while opting out of Posts. If you don’t want Tolstoy videos to appear as Shop Posts, disconnect Shop from Tolstoy.

Best Practices

Use short, product-focused videos that show the product clearly in use.

Keep product tagging accurate so shoppers can easily find the products featured in the video.

Review your selected playlists before publishing, especially if you use automatic or recent-video filters.

Troubleshooting / FAQs

Why are my Tolstoy videos appearing as Posts in the Shop home feed?
This is expected. Tolstoy videos connected to Shop are published as Shop Posts, and Shopify can display published posts in the Shop home feed, Shop Store, and Following tab.

Can I stay connected to Shop but stop Tolstoy videos from becoming Posts?
No. Currently, there’s no Tolstoy setting to keep the Shop connection while opting out of Posts. To stop this behavior, disconnect Shop in Tolstoy.

Why is Publish disabled?
Your shop might not be eligible for Shop App publishing. This can be related to your store’s region, Shop approval status, or other Shopify requirements.

Why does a video say it needs to be uploaded?
Some videos must be uploaded to Shopify before they can be published to the Shop app. Click Upload on the video card, then publish or sync again.

Can I change the video after publishing?
Shopify doesn’t let you change the image or video after a post is published. To use different media, duplicate the post or create a new post with the updated video.

How do I edit, unpublish, duplicate, or delete a Shop Post?
From Shopify admin, go to Sales channels > Shop > Posts. Next to the post, click , then choose Edit, Unpublish, Duplicate, or Delete post.
