How to Set Up Brand DNA

Written by Mikaela Lasig

Brand DNA gives you one place to store your core brand information, visuals, sizing details, and reference files inside Tolstoy. It helps merchants keep AI-generated content, storefront experiences, and brand presentation more consistent because the workspace and AI agent can use the same source of truth. Brand DNA does not have a separate publish flow, and this setup page does not show a dedicated paid-plan gate in the flow itself.

How to Set Up

Go to Account → Settings → Brand DNA.

In the Identity section, fill in your Brand Name, Website, Industry Verticals, Language, Description, and Target Audience.

Open Logos and upload any logos you want Tolstoy to use, such as Logo Main, Logo Horizontal, and Player Logo.

Open Brand Colors and add up to five brand colors.

Open Fonts and review your font styles. Add or edit fonts if you want your workspace to reflect your brand typography more closely. You can upload custom fonts too.

Open Social Links and add your brand profile URLs for channels like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Snapchat, and Threads.

Open Localization & Sizing and choose Metric or Imperial measurement units.

Open Files and upload brand reference materials such as brand books, product guides, sizing docs, PDFs, spreadsheets, images, videos, or entire folders.

If needed, add optional notes during file upload so the AI agent can understand what the files are for.

Wait for the save confirmation and file processing to complete before leaving the page.

Best Practices

  • Keep your brand description and target audience specific so Tolstoy has better context to work from.

  • Use complete, valid URLs for social profiles instead of usernames only.

  • Upload high-value reference files such as brand guidelines, tone-of-voice docs, product education, and sizing references.

  • Review logos, colors, and fonts regularly so your workspace stays aligned with your current brand system.

  • Add short notes when uploading files so the AI agent can find the right materials more easily later.

Troubleshooting / FAQs

Why are my changes not saving?
One common reason is an invalid social link URL. Make sure every social link uses a full valid URL format, then try again.

Why do I see an error under a social link?
Tolstoy validates social links as URLs. Update the field to a full valid link, such as https://instagram.com/yourbrand.

Why is my uploaded file still processing?
After upload, Tolstoy may still be processing or embedding the file so it can be searched and used by the AI agent. Wait until the file finishes processing in the list.

Can I upload more than one file at once?
Yes. You can upload multiple files together, and the page also supports uploading full folders.

Do I need Shopify to use Brand DNA?
No. The Brand DNA setup flow itself is not Shopify-specific.
