Tolstoy and Shop App Integration

This guide explains how Tolstoy integrates with the Shop App, how videos are published, and how to manage or opt out of this functionality.

Written by Niezl

Overview

When Tolstoy is connected to Shop, your Tolstoy videos are automatically published as Posts in the Shop App’s Home feed. This allows your video content to be discoverable directly within the Shop experience.

Important Note

If you do not want your Tolstoy videos to appear as Posts in the Shop App, you must disconnect the Shop integration entirely from Tolstoy.

⚠️ There is currently no option to stay connected to Shop while opting out of Posts only.

Creating Posts for Shop Using Tolstoy

You can use Tolstoy to create and publish video posts to Shop. Multiple posts can be live at the same time.

Before you begin

Posts must comply with the Shopify Acceptable Use Policy and Shop's content policies. If you need help with a post in the Shop feed that doesn't display as expected, then contact Shopify Support.

Sync a Video from Tolstoy to Shop

Follow these steps to connect Tolstoy and create a post:

  1. Go to your Shopify Admin

  2. Navigate to Sales Channels → Shop

  3. Click Posts

  4. Click Connect apps

  5. Under Connected apps, click Connect next to Tolstoy

  6. Go to the Tolstoy platform. Click Widgets → Shop App → + Browse Templates

    Create Project

Add a playlist and select Video Recency. Click Publish once done.

Unpublish and disconnect the Shop App entirely in Tolstoy if you want to delete the post.

Managing Your Posts

Once a post is published, you can manage it in several ways.

What you can edit:

  • Headline

  • Caption

  • Tagged products

  • Expiration date

What you cannot edit:

  • The image or video after publishing

If you need to change the media, you’ll need to duplicate the post or create a new one.

Edit, Unpublish, Duplicate, or Delete a Post

  1. Go to Shopify Admin

  2. Navigate to Sales Channels → Shop

  3. Click Posts

  4. Find the post you want to manage

  5. Click the … (three dots) menu and choose one of the following:

  • Edit – Update headline, caption, products, or expiration date

  • Unpublish – Remove the post from Shop (can be republished later)

  • Duplicate – Create a copy of the post

  • Delete – Permanently remove the post from Shop and your list

Key Takeaways

  • Tolstoy videos automatically become Shop posts when connected

  • You cannot opt out of posts without disconnecting Shop

  • Media cannot be edited after publishing

  • You can always unpublish or delete posts as needed
